Sangeet performers dancing on an outdoor stage at an Indian wedding celebration

Sangeet Entertainment: DJ, Band, or Live Musicians?

Zorawar Shukla

Breaking down the pros and cons of each entertainment option for your sangeet night, and how to decide what fits your celebration best.

The sangeet is one of the most high-energy nights of an Indian wedding, and the entertainment you choose sets the tone for everything that follows. A DJ gives you flexibility and a huge range of music on demand, ideal if you want the dance floor packed all night. A live band adds a layer of performance and spectacle, especially for choreographed family dances. Live musicians, like a tabla or dhol player layered with a DJ set, bring a more textured, cultural feel that studio tracks alone can’t replicate. Many of the best sangeets actually combine all three: a DJ as the foundation, live percussion for key moments, and a band or performer for a signature entrance. The right mix depends on your venue size, guest list, and how much of the night is choreographed versus open dancing.
